MANILA – Bukidnon’s Claren Quiño carded an 84 in the final round and still managed to capture the girls' 7-10 division title Wednesday in the ICTSI Junior PGT Championship at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City.

She had six bogeys and three double bogeys for a 12-over round to finish with a total of 165, enough to claim victory over first-day leader and hometown bet Francesca Geroy and another local standout Abby Qiu.

“I was happy but nervous when I took the lead. On No. 9, I got a bit cheeky since my friends were watching,” the nine-year-old Quiño from Del Monte School said.

She warded off Qiu, who had an 83 but came up three strokes short at 168.

Geroy carded a 92 for a 172 total to finish third, duplicating her performance in the Del Monte leg.

In the boys division, homegrown talent Jamie Barnes collected his second straight title in his debut Junior PGT campaign.

The nine-year-old fired rounds of 71 and 78 for a 149 total.

“I played okay but my putting wasn’t so good again,” Barnes said. Davao's Miguel Revilleza, who also carded a 78, finished with 158 for second place, while local bet Shaqeeq Tanog was third with an 84 and 163 total. (PNA)
