Only Murders in the Building season 5 begins filming with new behind-the-scenes photos. Co-created by John Hoffman, Hulu's Emmy-winning series follows three friends who host a true-crime podcast that only investigates murders that take place within their Arconia apartment building in New York City. Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez star as the podcasting trio alongside a revolving door of big guest stars. Only Murders in the Building season 5 was officially renewed back in September 2024, shortly after season 3 premiered.

Now, the official Only Murders in the Building account on Instagram has announced that the Hulu series is back in production for season 5. In a separate post, several behind-the-scenes photos were shared featuring Steve Martin, Martin Short, John Hoffman, and other crew members on day one of filming. Where's Selena Gomez?

With season 5 now filming, the photos show Steve Martin and Martin Short are among those on set. The other third of the podcasting trio, Selena Gomez, isn't on set since the day before, she was at the 97th Academy Awards, where her movie Emilia Pérez won two Oscars for Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldaña) and Best Original Song. Gomez also presented the Best Documentary awards alongside Samuel L. Jackson. However, with awards season over, Gomez should be able to return to set for season 5 shortly.

Only Murders In The Building Has Neglected One Of Its Best Characters (And They Should Return In Season 5)

Teddy Dimas is absent from the previous two seasons of Only Murders In The Building, but as one of the best characters, he should return in season 5.

The images don't reveal much about season 5's story. Keeping with the tradition of the show, the Only Murders in the Building season 4 ending revealed the murder victim for season 5, the Arconia's doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca), whose dead body the trio discovers in the apartment building's fountain. Shortly before, the trio met a new character, Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni), who wants to hire them to investigate her husband's disappearance, which is likely related to Teddy's murder in some way.

Will It Be Able To Make Its Summer Premiere Date?

Since the series premiered in 2021, the first four seasons have premiered consecutive years in the summer, with three of the four seasons premiering in August. Now in production, season 5 should be able to make its summer premiere date once again, since season 4 also started filming in March 2024 and premiered in late August of the same year. With Only Murders in the Building season 5 seemingly following the same schedule, a premiere in late August 2025 not only seems possible, but likely.
